The above lines state that if hundred moons were to rise and a thousand suns appeared, even with such light there would still be pitch darkness without the guru.
Just as a candle cannot burn without flame, we cannot live without spiritual life. Spirituality plays a crucial role in our life. When everything is falling apart and there no hope of good it’s where the spirituality helps us to go through it.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji the first guru and the founder of Sikhism proposed the idea of “one god” and explain about the existence of powerful omnipresent lord.
He always presented himself as a messenger of god and devoted his whole life spreading the principles of god.
Teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji:
KIRAT KARO (Earning a living honestly):
Guru Nanak Dev Ji always proposed the principle of living with honesty. Earning the living with honesty is one of the main principles he taught on his four travels ( Chaar Uddasian). In his Gurbani he says that the only way to find the god which lives inside the heart of all creatures you must lead your life with truth and honesty and never indulge in unfair practices.
NAAM JAPO (chanting the holy name):
Guru Nanak Dev Ji proposed the idea of chanting the holy name which helps us in remember him. Name of lord purifies the soul from all the evil ideas that come to our mind and refreshes our soul towards the life of truth. Meditation is the concept which closely coincides with Guru Nanak’s teachings
VAND CHAKKO (Sharing with others, helping the needy):
Guru Nanak Dev Ji taught to help others especially the ones who are in need. Helping others doesn’t only include other human beings but also other creatures like the animals, birds etc. Helping others let us show our gratitude towards the creation of god and thus improves our quality of living. That’s why it’s always said that service to man is the service to god.
The 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji is coming in the month of November. Let’s contribute to this society by following some of his teaching and strengthen our faith in the almighty.
