Best way to goodbye the 2019

New beginnings become even more meaningful when we take a step forward with gratitude and remember the supreme power—our beloved God.

As we stand in the month of December, with the cold, shivering winter taking its toll, we eagerly await the arrival of another joyful New Year. Some of us can’t help but wonder how quickly time has passed—wasn’t it just yesterday that we celebrated the start of 2019?

I’m actually one of those people, and that’s why this thought struck me.

December is the perfect time to reflect. It’s a time to feel thankful to God for the year gone by and to set new resolutions to welcome the coming year with hope and joy. Yet, many of us also feel regret for not achieving the goals we set at the beginning of the year.

This happens to almost everyone. We often set overly ambitious New Year resolutions, and even when we set realistic ones, we sometimes hesitate to step out of our comfort zones. But there’s no need to feel bad about it—it simply proves we’re human! (And no, we don’t have any chronic mental disorders—just joking!)

Now, here’s a little surprise for all of you.

We still have a few days left in December 2019 before 2020 arrives. These remaining days can be turned into something truly special. Imagine ending 2019 with a sense of accomplishment and joy, saying, “This year was amazing!”

But how can we do that?

There are countless ways, but one timeless and effective approach is rooted in kindness.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji once said:

ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਦਇਆ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਏਹ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰ ॥
सतु संतोखु दइआ कमावै एह करणी सार ॥
Sat santoḵẖ ḏa▫i▫ā kamāvai eh karṇī sār.

“Practice truth, contentment, and kindness; this is the most excellent way of life.”

Kindness is one of the greatest virtues we can practice. Guru Nanak Dev Ji emphasized its importance as the key to a meaningful life.

In these remaining days of 2019, we have the opportunity to help those around us. As the saying goes, “Service to man is service to God.” This is the time to make a difference and turn the end of the year into something extraordinary.

Even if we help just one person a day, by the end of the year, we will have positively impacted five lives.

Here are a few simple ways to show kindness:

  • Speak kindly to others.
  • Donate items you no longer use.
  • Educate others about what is right and wrong.
  • Listen to someone’s feelings.
  • Appreciate the goodness in others.
  • Offer your best advice and suggestions.
  • Support justice and fairness.

There are countless ways to spread kindness to the sweet and great living beings around us.

Let’s make the most of these remaining days of 2019, and may 2020 come dancing into our lives with blessings, joy, and good news.

Happy New Year to my sweet and great family!
May God shower His goodness upon all of you.
